Overview

The Cloisters are University of Mary student apartments whose names draw inspiration from our treasured Benedictine Tradition and strike a special chord with Rome study-abroad students.

Subiaco, the easternmost building, takes its name from the Italian valley and town in which St. Benedict first retreated as a hermit before emerging to found 12 monasteries. Not only did The Rule of St. Benedict greatly influence the spread of monasticism, it has intimately contributed to the formation of the mission and identity of the University of Mary.

Subiaco offers fine apartment living for juniors, seniors, and graduate students. It has 11 two-bedroom units and one one-bedroom unit. In addition, students will enjoy gathering in the newly renovated Chesterton’s, which is adjacent to The Cloisters.

Residence Director of the Apartments

I was born and raised in Bismarck. After my conversion to Catholicism at the end of high school, the Lord beckoned me to pursue Him through studying philosophy and Catholic Studies. My time at UMary was deeply formative, and the graces I received from my friends, professors, and classmates continue to shape who I have and will become. Now, my family and I have the privilege of sharing our lives with the vibrant and joyful apartment communities. I am honored to serve our upperclassmen in programming aimed at developing integrated and flourishing young men and women.
