University of Mary Will Employ First Ever Waitlist for Freshman Applicants on June 1

BISMARCK, ND — For the first time in the school’s history, the University of Mary will employ a waiting list for freshman applicants interested in enrolling in the 2018 fall semester. At this time the University of Mary expects 20 percent more incoming freshmen in 2018 compared to 2017, and a record-shattering class of over 500 incoming freshmen.

In February, the University of Mary announced that a waitlist for incoming freshmen was possible, but at that time still seemed unlikely.

“As we said in February, this growth is astonishing. We knew that we were poised for growth, but this has been beyond our expectations,” said Director of Undergraduate Admissions Richard Hinton. “It is critical to note that we do have just a few spots remaining for our freshman class of 2018. These will be filled in the coming weeks, and all application files that are completed after June 1 will likely need to be placed on a waitlist. Students will then be granted a seat in the class if space becomes available.”

The University of Mary emphasizes that its freshman class is nearly at capacity, but that there is still some room for transfer students. Any student considering attending the University of Mary in the fall of 2018 is encouraged to complete their application file as soon as possible for the best chance of admission.

“We said it in February, and it is the truth. The University of Mary is no longer the best kept secret in higher education. With this announcement, we anticipate that a few parents might gently encourage a procrastinating son or daughter to complete their application file right away, as this June 1 waitlist deadline is fast approaching,” Hinton said.

Hinton indicates that this year’s class has grown in just about every area. There are more students coming to Mary from North Dakota, with increases approaching 20 percent in just one year. Yet the largest growth is from outside the state, with over 80 percent growth in just a single year from the states of Minnesota, Montana, and even California.

“While many other colleges and universities are struggling to meet recruitment goals, the University of Mary has continued to grow at an exceptional pace. We are blessed to be in this position, and we are sincerely grateful to God, and to all of those who have contributed to this success.”
