University of Mary Invites Veterans, Active-Serving Military, and Families to Special Veterans Day Mass
Community invited to join in prayer, thanksgiving, and recognition of those who have served and continue to serve our nation
BISMARCK, ND — The University of Mary invites veterans, active-serving military personnel from all branches of the U.S. military, their families, and the surrounding community to a special Veterans Day Mass on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel on campus.
The annual observance offers an opportunity for the university community and the public to come together in gratitude for the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who have defended our nation and those who continue to serve.
As part of the celebration, veterans and active-serving military personnel in attendance will be invited to receive a special blessing near the conclusion of Mass, recognizing their commitment to protecting the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.
Following Mass, veterans, active-serving personnel, and their families are invited to enjoy a complimentary brunch at The Crow’s Nest Campus Restaurant. The gathering provides an opportunity for fellowship, conversation, and personal expressions of appreciation for those who have answered the call to military service.
Veterans Day, observed annually on Nov. 11, honors the service of all U.S. military veterans. Originally known as Armistice Day, the observance commemorated the end of World War I, when fighting ceased on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to recognize American veterans of all wars.
At the University of Mary, the observance also reflects the institution’s Benedictine values of respect for persons, hospitality, community, and service. Through prayer and thanksgiving, the university seeks to acknowledge not only the sacrifices made by military personnel, but also the steadfast support of their families. The University of Mary is proud to serve students who serve in the military and veterans through a variety of scholarships and different programming.
The Veterans Day Mass begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel at the University of Mary, south of Bismarck. The Mass is open to the everyone, regardless of religious affiliation, and a complimentary brunch for veterans, active-serving military personnel, and their families will follow at The Crow’s Nest Campus Restaurant.
