BISMARCK, ND — There’s nothing more empowering and rewarding as a college student than finding that first career job or internship. The University of Mary Career Services Department is now making the process much easier and beneficial — not only for the student, but also for the potential employer — thanks to its new career management platform called Handshake.

“Once students download the Handshake application, they enter their umary.edu email that corresponds with University of Mary as a registered school, they fill out their profile to determine if they are looking for an internship, a part-time job, a full-time job, or even an on-campus job,” said Kevin Allan director of Career Services at the University of Mary. “This new career management platform is a very intuitive and comprehensive for the employer and student. Handshake will allow Mary students to connect directly with employers, while employers can post events for students, register for exclusive virtual career fairs, view student resumes and more.”

Allan says the University of Mary already has a stellar career outcome rate of 97 percent over the past five years and expects Handshake to enhance the rate to near 100 percent, while also broadening the employer spectrum for students and allow them to get an honest look at employers and jobs from student reviews. According to Handshake, along with the University of Mary, it partners with approximately 1,000 colleges and universities. More than 500,000 employers hire students on Handshake, they can create events for students to participate in, and communicate directly with them through the system.

Employers can get started using Handshake by going to https://app.joinhandshake.com and if they have questions they can contact Kevin Allan at kallan@umary.edu, or call (701) 355-8050.
