Remember Bloody Sunday

On Sunday, January 30, 1972, British soldiers massacred 13 peaceful demonstrators and wounded at least 15 more during a civil rights rally in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. Learn more about this day known as Bloody Sunday, including efforts for peace and reconciliation, by joining us for the 9th annual Bloody Sunday Forum.

9th Annual Bloody Sunday Forum

10 am — Monday Morning Mission & Spotlight (Lumen Vitae Center). Join us for prayer and music and learn more about an opportunity to serve the poor in Bismarck on Tuesday.

3:30 - 4:15 pm — Faculty Colloquium (TSB 207). Join faculty & students for sharing of emerging research entitled: Mass Rocks and Hedge Schools: Signs of Colonial Resistance.

8:30 pm — Late Night with Father Domonic (lower level of Lumen Vitae Center). Come and join in the music and interesting guests, including Mary Alumnus State Senator Sean Cleary.

 

10 - 10:50 am — Convocation (Butler Auditorium). Join us for a presentation by North Dakota State Senator and Mary Alumnus, Sean Cleary, as he shares his experiences as a state senator, including his resolution concerning recognition of the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Peace Agreement in Northern Ireland.

1 - 1:50 pm — Conversation with State Senator Sean Cleary (TSB 206) – You are most very welcome for more conversation with Senator Cleary – author of the resolution honoring the 1998 Good Friday Peace Agreement in North Ireland.

12 pm — Mass for BSF “Patroness” Sister Claire Crockett (Our Lady of the Word Chapel). Gather in prayer and Eucharist for Mass on campus as we remember Sister Claire Crockett, from Northern Ireland (the site of Bloody Sunday 1972).

1-1:50 pm — Dialogue/Lecture (TSB 206). Join students, staff, and faculty for a lecture/dialogue by Dr. Mike Taylor, focused on the 52nd Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, and the events surrounding the Civil Rights march in (London) Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1972, that ended in violence.

9:15 - 11:30 am — Volunteer Work (Ministry on the Margin). Volunteers will gather at Ministry on the Margins for food distribution.

10:10 am — Will we take time out from our service on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday (1972), to stand in solidarity with the people of Northern Ireland.

6:30 - 8:30 pm — Movie: Bloody Sunday (Simmons Center, Casey 128). Join us for a critically acclaimed movie with guest panelist retired Brigadier General David Anderson and learn more about issues surrounding the Troubles and Bloody Sunday.  Bloody Sunday - Trailer
