Career Outlook for Physicians and Surgeons
Physicians and surgeons work in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private offices. While these medical professionals must complete demanding education and training requirements, their wages are among the highest for all occupations, and strong job growth is expected:
Due to continued expansion of healthcare-related industries, employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 7% from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations.
In 2020, wages for physicians and surgeons are among the highest of all occupations, with a median wage equal to or greater than $208,000 per year.
Almost all physicians complete at least four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and, depending on their specialty, three to eight years in internship and residency programs.
Because admission requirements vary with different professional schools, students are urged to contact the professional school they wish to attend to assure that they have taken all of the prerequisite classes to meet program requirements.
Even as one of the most affordable private universities in the nation, the University of Mary does offer a variety of scholarships. In fact, 99% of main campus undergraduate students receive some form of scholarship!
