Pre-Med Concentration Overview

With a strong focus in biology and the sciences, the Pre-Med concentration is designed for students who are considering careers as physicians, surgeons, and other medical professions. The Pre-Med concentration consists of 10 courses and can be taken within any major at the University of Mary.

Career Outlook for Physicians and Surgeons
Physicians and surgeons work in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private offices. While these medical professionals must complete demanding education and training requirements, their wages are among the highest for all occupations, and strong job growth is expected:

In 2016, physicians practicing primary care received a median annual pay of $190,490.
Education Requirements
Almost all physicians complete at least 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and, depending on their specialty, 3 to 8 years in internship and residency programs.
Because admission requirements vary with different professional schools, students are urged to contact the professional school they wish to attend to assure that they have taken all of the prerequisite classes to meet program requirements.

In addition to a wide selection of undergraduate programs available at our main campus in Bismarck, North Dakota, we also offer selected programs online and through convenient evening classes that meet one night per week.
