About Me

I come to the University of Mary with 28 years of experience as a school counselor, six years as a Reading Teacher, and 11 years as an Associate Clinical Professor in School Counseling at the University of Dayton (OH).

I am married to a former school psychologist and school counselor and we have a beautiful little girl who is nine years of age. I also have two grown children and three grandchildren.

Why I’m At Mary

My reason for coming to the University of Mary is because of my belief in the Benedictine Mission and the programs offered to students who wish to continue that mission as practitioners of school and mental health counseling.

I can think of no higher calling than to spread the love and mercy of God to others.

Expertise

My areas of interest and study include Solution Focused Brief Therapy and meeting the personal/social, academic, and career needs of young people. I continue to seek evidence-based means for meeting those needs through therapeutic work with family systems in mind.

Education

PhD: Ohio University, 1998
MSEd: Ohio University, 1986
BSEd: Ohio University, 1979

Featured Content

I am a proponent of implementing Stephen Covey's habit of "beginning with the end in mind" in everything a therapeutic professional does.

I also teach and believe that an effective counselor is not a "sage on the stage, but rather a guide on the side". The individuals with whom we work are best served when we help them to identify their skill sets and past successes.
