Abigail Karr, MM

About Me
I joined the University of Mary faculty in the fall of 2024, and currently teach violin and direct the String Ensemble. I have also taught Intro to Music and secondary piano. Before coming to the Midwest, I divided my time between Boston and New York, performing in a wide variety of ensembles and teaching students of all ages and levels on both violin and piano. I care deeply about connecting with students as individuals, introducing them to new ideas and styles, and problem-solving on technical issues using knowledge of the specific anatomy of playing the violin.
Why I’m At MaryI feel grateful for the opportunity to reach students on a variety of subjects, both in the classroom and the studio.
Expertise
As a performer, my focus is on historical performance from the 17th to the 20th century, with an emphasis on the 19th century. I performed on the first period-instrument album of complete works for violin and piano by Felix Mendelssohn (with fortepianist Yi-heng Yang), and the debut album of selected works by one of his successors, Friedrich Hermann.
