John Macias, PhD
Current Position: Residence Life Scholar, University of Mary, Bismarck, ND.
Dr. Macias received a BA in Philosophy from Benedictine College (2009) in Atchison, KS. He completed a PhD in Philosophy from the Center for Thomistic Studies in the University of St. Thomas, Houston, TX (2016). Prior to beginning at UMary, he served as the Resident Scholar at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, OK.
Dr. Macias has taught courses in ethics, philosophy of the human person, and metaphysics. He is excited to work with students and show them the relevance of philosophical questions for their everyday lives. His doctoral dissertation focused on the political philosophy of Alasdair MacIntyre, and his research interests are in political philosophy, natural law, and philosophy of science.
When he is not teaching, Dr. Macias also serves as the Residence Life Scholar in North Hall. In his role as RLS, he works with Resident Assistants to provide quality programming for freshmen students. He will help provide professional development opportunities to RAs and offer an example of a living a fully integrated life.
In his spare time, Dr. Macias enjoys reading comic books, attending musical theater and opera, golfing, and spending time with friends.
