Brian Lydeen, D.M.A.
Current Position: Director of Pep Band and Associate Professor of Music, University of Mary, Bismarck, ND.
Dr. Brian Lydeen is an Associate Professor of Woodwinds and Director of the Pep Band at University of Mary. He is a North Dakota native and has taught instrumental music at all levels ranging from elementary through university in North Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas, and Wisconsin. Prior to his appointment at University of Mary, Lydeen was Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Department at Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI from 2002-2017. He is also a member of the National Guard 188th Army Band in Fargo, ND, and was previously with the 132nd National Guard Army Band in Madison, WI. In 2014, Lydeen won the Army Music Non-Commissioned Officer Soldier of the Year competition. Dr. Lydeen is a frequent saxophone soloist and jazz and woodwind guest artist, clinician, and adjudicator. His performance credits include Allen Vizzutti, Aaron Neville, Arturo Sandoval, Bob Newhart, David “Fathead” Newman, Tom “Bones” Malone, Johnny Mathis, Wayne Newton, Janet Planet, Tony Scodwell, Kevin Mahogany, Peabo Bryson, Marilyn McCoo, The Yellowjackets, David Liebman, Maria Schneider, Scott Whitfield Ginger Berglund, Valery Ponomarev, and Eugene Rousseau. He holds degrees in Music Performance and Music Education from University of Mary, University of Northern Colorado, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
