Brunskill Named First Team All-American

Bismarck, ND - Already one of the most highly decorated University of Mary student-athletes, Dre Brunskill earned not one but two All-American honors to cap a spectacular career on the diamond. The crowning achievement for the Valley Center, CA, native is earning first team recognition on the 2010 Louisville Slugger / NFCA Division II All-American team.

Selected by members of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Brunskill is one of 16 players named to the first squad. Brunskill was chosen as the utility player/non-pitcher.

Additionally, Brunskill is an honorable mention selection on the 2010 Daktronics All-America Softball Team as chosen by the nation's sports information directors.

Brunskill becomes the first U-Mary student-athlete to be voted a first-team All-American since the Marauders began competing at the NCAA Division II level in fall 2006.

Previously this spring, Brunskill was selected to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Central Region First Team and the 2010 Daktronics, Inc., Softball All-Central Region First Team. She also was named to the All-Northern Sun First Team for the third time in four seasons. Prior to the start of the season, Brunskill was the 2010 Northern Sun Preseason Co-Player of the Year.

Primarily a catcher her first three seasons, Brunskill's versatility proved invaluable to the Marauders. She played 28 games at first, 17 games at third, four as designated hitter and four others at catcher in 2010.

Among Northern Sun leaders in most major offensive categories, Brunskill led the conference in hits per game and is second in batting average, hits, doubles, total bases.
Brunskill hit .427 and slugged .680 with an on base percentage of .469, all career highs. U-Mary's cleanup hitter also set personal marks with eight home runs, 17 doubles, 76 hits and three steals in 53 games. Additionally, she scored 30 runs and hit two triples.

Nationally, Brunskill is 47th in NCAA Division II in hitting, 58th in doubles per game, 93rd in slugging percentage and 109th in on base percentage.

Showing a flair for the big hit, seven of Brunskill's eight home runs came in U-Mary wins. Only one was hit when the difference in score was more than one run. Four of her home runs gave the Marauders a lead and two others tied the game. The other two shots extended U-Mary leads.

Brunskill's offensive play was one of the big reasons the Marauders finished the season 31-23 overall and 15-11 in the Northern Sun to qualify for the conference post-season tournament. The record was U-Mary's best since recording a 39-14 mark in 2004. This season also marked the first season the Marauders earned a spot in the NCAA regional rankings.

For her career, Brunskill hit .394 and slugged .605 with a .428 on base percentage while starting 198 games. She compiled 259 hits with 107 runs scored, 53 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs and 164 RBI.

One of the region's top offensive players, Brunskill earned several individual honors her first three seasons at U-Mary. She earned first team All-NSIC honors at catcher as a freshman in 2007 and a junior in 2009. Brunskill missed earning conference honors her sophomore season after missing a dozen games due to injury but returned to the lineup in time to be named to the conference all-tournament team in 2008. She also was the 2007 NSIC Rookie of the Year and received Louisville Slugger/NFCA all-region first team honors.
