Marauders Football Gains 38 Commitments on National Signing Day
Bismarck, ND - University of Mary head football coach Myron Schulz announced today the signings of 38 high school student-athletes who have committed to continue their education and play football at U-Mary."Every recruiting class is exciting as we get to bring new members into the University of Mary family," said Schulz. "I enjoy the process of getting to know these student-athletes over the past year and we look forward to the day when they can step onto the field for the Marauders." Today's announcement comes on the first day student-athletes are eligible to sign a National Letter of Intent with NCAA Division I and Division II colleges. 2010 HIGH SCHOOL COMMITMENTS Ethan Bakken, Defensive End, 6-4, 220. Lakeville, MN (Lakeville South HS) Jordan Boston, Kicker/Punter, 6-1, 185. Belle Fourche, SD (Belle Fourche HS) Jeremiah Brewster, Strong Safety, 5-10, 200. Rapid City, SD (St. Thomas More) An all-state performer who advanced to the state championship game, Jeremiah Brewster twice was named to the all-Black Hills conference team, twice was a Best of the West performer, and two times earned team defensive most valuable player honors. The son of Christine Tshimanga and Steve Brewster, Jeremiah will major in athletic training. Joshua Edwards, Quarterback, 5-11, 190. Ceres, CA (Ceres HS) A second-team all-league performer, Joshua Edwards earned most valuable player honors three times for his school and was named a player of the week by the local newspaper. Edwards also played baseball and basketball. He earned an academic athletic achievement patch as a senior and an NSAA award. The son of Ron and Lisa Edwards, Joshua will pursue a science degree at the University of Mary. Zachary Emil, Running Back, 5-8, 170. Bismarck, ND (Century HS) Century High School recorded a record of 27-9 in the three seasons Zachary Emil played for the Patriots. One of his high school highlights was scoring five touchdowns and rushing for over 200 yards in a 34-0 win over Dickinson in 2008. The son of Brenda Kollmer, Zachary is undecided on an academic major. Brandon Fox, Running Back, 5-9, 170. Newell, SD (Newell HS) A second-team Best of the West selection and a three-time team offensive most valuable player, Brandon Fox set several marks at Newell High School. He set school records for rushing yards and touchdowns for a single season and a career. Fox ran for 4,720 yards, which is fifth all-time in South Dakota nine-man football, and his 53 rushing touchdowns is in the top eight. He scored 58 total touchdowns. The son of Kelly Fox and Teresa Bethea, Brandon plans to major in criminal justice. Shane Gallagher, Offensive Lineman, 6-2, 220. Jamestown, ND (Jamestown HS) A two-time team captain, Shane Gallagher earned all-west region honors in 2008 and was named to the east all-region team in 2009. Gallagher also wrestles. The son of Bruce and Hedy Gallagher, Shane will major in criminal justice at the University of Mary. Travis Gavin, Offensive Line, 6-5, 275. Blaine, MN (Blaine HS) An all-conference defensive lineman, Travis Gavin led his team to an 8-2 record as a senior and a Minnesota state championship runner-up finish and an 11-2 mark in 2008. A three-sport athlete, Gavin earned all-conference honors in wrestling, served as the team captain and earned team MVP honors, was the section runner-up and advanced to the state quarterfinals last season. He also earned all-conference honors in the shot put and the discus. Six times Gavin has earned Outstanding Academic Silver Achievement honors and earned the Outstanding Academic Gold Achievement Gold award once. The son of Karl and Colleen Gavin and brother of current Marauders football player Torrey, Travis will pursue a degree in nursing. Dariouse Gravely, Cornerback, 5-8, 170. Las Vegas, NV (Silverado HS) Dariouse Gravely led Silverado High School to a 9-0 mark as a sophomore in 2007, a 5-6 mark as a junior and a 6-4 record last season as a senior. The son of Pamela Everett and Emmett Gravely, Dariouse will major in engineering. Arron Gross, Linebacker, 5-7, 185. Mandan, ND (Mandan, HS) A four-year football player at Mandan High School, Arron Gross also has competed in baseball and track. The son of Cheryl Gustafson and Marty Gross, Arron plans to major in athletic training. Dan Hangaard, Wide Receiver, 6-4, 220. Hankinson, ND (Hankinson HS) A second-team all-state football player, Dan Hangaard led Hankinson High School to a nine-man state championship. He also earned all-region honors. A multi-sport athlete, Hangaard is a two-time all-district basketball player who also competes in track and baseball. The son of Bonnie and Glenn Hangaard, Danny is undecided on an academic major. Logan Hanson, Outside Linebacker, 6-1, 200. Hopkins, MN (Hopkins HS) The team captain and a member of the all-conference squad as a senior, Logan Hanson led Hopkins to a conference title in 2009 with a record of 7-4 and was named his squad's most inspirational leader. He led his team in forced and recovered fumbles and tied for the team lead in interceptions. Hanson is also the captain of his Rugby team. A member of both the"A" and "B" honor roll at his school, Logan is the son of Julie Hanson and Kurt Hanson and is undecided on an academic major. Jeremiah Herman, Offensive Line, 6-3, 250. Mandan, ND (Shiloh Christian School) Named to the all-region team in 2009, Jeremiah Herman was selected to play in the 2010 Shriners game. The son of Lyle and Peggy Herman, Jeremiah will pursue a degree in mass communications at the University of Mary. Alejandro Hidalgo, Nose Guard, 6-1, 290. Red Lodge, MT (Roberts HS) A first team all-state performer, Alejandro Hidalgo set a team record with 22 tackles for loss and 20 forced fumbles. He also earned all-conference honors and was selected to play in a state all-star game. His senior season, Hidalgo made 48 tackles, recorded one interception, recovered three fumbles and scored four touchdowns. As a junior he made 42 tackles, recovered seven fumbles and scored six touchdowns. Also a member of the track team, he placed sixth in the state in the shot put as a junior in 2008. The son of Ramon and Mona Hidalgo, Alejandro is undecided on his academic major. Justin Holm, Defensive End, 6-1, 230. Detroit Lakes, MN (Detroit Lakes HS) A two-time all-conference selection who also earned all-section honors, Justin Holm was a two-year captain at Detroit Lakes High School. He also earned honorable mention all-conference honors in wrestling. The son of Wallace Holm, Justin will major in criminology or psychology. Derek Hopfauf, Outside Linebacker, 6-0, 210. Mandan, ND (Mandan HS) The Mandan High School team captain and defensive player of the year as a senior in 2009, Derek Hopfauf earned honorable mention all-conference honors last season. He was also The Fan player of the game for his efforts in the Mandan vs. Century game. An Academic All-Conference selection in 2009, Derek is the son of Roxann and Kevin Hopfauf and will major in athletic training. Garrett Jacobs, Wide Receiver, 6-2, 190. Bismarck, ND (Century HS) Garrett Jacobs earned first-team all-state honors as a senior at Bismarck Century High School. Nick Jolliffe, Wide Receiver/Safety, 6-2, 180. Bismarck, ND (Bismarck HS) An all-state receiver as a senior, Nick Jolliffe played on back-to-back state championship teams in 2008 and 2009. Jolliffe earned all-WDA honors as a wide receiver and free safety in 2009 as the Demons went 11-1 in 2008 and 12-0 his senior season. A three-time member of the National Honor Society, Nick is the son of Nick and Rhonda Jolliffe and will major in physical therapy at U-Mary. Tyler Kist, Outside Linebacker, 6-1, 220. Winnipeg, MB (St. Paul's HS) A team captain, Tyler Kist was the winner of the John Potter D'Arcy Bain Physiotherapy Award for the most improved player during his high school career. An honor roll member, Tyler is the son of Gwen and Tim Kist and is undecided on an academic major. Daniel Miller, Defensive Tackle, 6-0, 250. Eagle Point, OR (Eagle Point HS) Remington MonFross, Inside Linebacker, 5-10, 190. Big Timber, MT (Sweet Grass County HS) Remington MonFross earned three letters in football at Sweet County Grass High School. He also has played four years of American Legion baseball with his team winning a district title in 2009. The son of Tamara and Michael MonFross, Remington will major in athletic training. Carsten Nelson, Running Back, 6-0, 190. Brainerd, MN (Brainerd HS) An all-area selection, Carsten Nelson led Brainard to state in 2007 and 2009 and a 28-8 record the past three seasons. Brainerd finished the 2007 season 11-2, 7-3 in 2008 and 10-3 in 2009. The son of Carrie and Wayne Nelson, Carsten has earned all-area academic honors and is undecided on a major. Ashton Norder, Defensive End, 6-0, 220. Glen Ham, SD (Mobridge-Pollock HS) A team captain and a two-time Big Dakota all-conference performer, Ashton Norder was named the Prep Bowl most valuable player and also earned most valuable linebacker honors. A member of the "B" honor roll, Ashton is the son of Mike and Jessie Norder and will major in elementary education. Andrew Nyberg, Defensive Line, 6-3, 260. Aitkin, MN (Aitkin HS) Donald Pask, Offensive Line, 6-2, 260. Savage, MN (Prior Lake HS) A team captain and an all-conference offensive lineman, Donald Pask was named his team's best lineman. His high school team showed improvement in each of the last three years, from 3-5 to 4-4 to 5-3. Defensively Pask made 11 tackles. The son of Donald and Susan Pask, Donald Jr. will major in teacher education at the University of Mary. Elby Pope, Cornerback / Wide Receiver, 6-0, 165. Grand Forks, ND (Red River HS) A North Dakota All-State selection at cornerback, Elby Pope also earned All-Eastern Dakota Conference and Grand Forks All-City recognition. He was chosen to play in the 2010 Dakota Bowl and the Shrine Game. The son of Tricia and Elbert Pope, Elby is undecided on a major. Spencer Revenberg, Linebacker, 6-0, 225. Essex, ONTARIO (Essex District High School). The team captain the past two seasons and the squad's defensive most valuable player, Spencer Revenberg ran for 1,152 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Defensively, he made 112 tackles, forced three fumbles, recovered one fumble and made one interception as his squad finished 7-2. He had over 300 yards rushing in one contest last season. The son of Cindy and Terry Revenberg, Spencer will major in business. D'Andre Rhodes, Running Back, 5-10, 195. Katy, TX (Morton Ranch HS) A second-team all-district player as a senior, D'Andre Rhodes earned his team's most improved honor as a senior in 2009. He carried the ball 84 times for 400 yards and one touchdown. The son of Rita and Alfred Rhodes, D'Andre will major in nutritional science at U-Mary. Kasey Schmidt, Defensive End, 6-1, 215. Beulah, ND (Beulah HS) An all-state defensive lineman, Kasey Schmidt also earned all-conference honors and was his team's defensive most valuable player. Schmidt also competes in basketball, baseball and track. A member of the "A" honor roll, the National Honor Society and ranked third in his senior class, Kasey is the son of Connie and Terence Schmidt and is undecided on an academic major. Keanon Serna, Nose Guard, 6-0, 270. Beulah, ND (Beulah HS) An all-state second team selection as an offensive lineman in 2009 and a team captain, Keanon Serna was a first-team all-region and all-conference offensive and defensive lineman and earned his school's lineman award. As a junior in 2008, he was named to the all-region team as both an offensive and defensive lineman and earned the Blue and Gold Award. A three-year selection to the Academic All-Region team (2007-09), Keanon is the son of Meloney and Will Erker and will major in computer information systems at U-Mary. Grant Singer, Linebacker, 6-1, 190. Turtle Lake, ND (Turtle Lake-Mercer HS) The North Dakota Nine Man Senior Athlete of the Year and the Region 6 Senior Athlete of the Year, Grant Singer also was a two-time all-state performer. He also was a three-time all-region and Missouri Valley all-conference selection. Singer also earned academic team honors for three years and is a four-year member of the honor roll. The son of Paul and Lynn Singer, Grant will major in business administration at U-Mary. Matthew Stevenson, Offensive Line, 6-0, 250. Woodbury, MN (Woodbury HS) The team captain his senior year, Matthew Stevenson keyed a conference-leading rushing attack as a senior while playing center. His high school finished 9-2 his junior year and 6-4 as a senior. Stevenson was named his team's most improved lifter in 2008. Named to the Academic Silver team in 2008 and 2009, Matthew is the son of Mike and Patty Stevenson and will pursue a degree in physical therapy at the University of Mary. Tyler Stricherz, Linebacker, 5-10, 185. Mobridge, SD (Mobridge-Pollock HS) A two-time all-conference performer, Tyler Stricherz also was selected as his team's captain and most valuable running back. He was named the track team's hardest worker and also wrestled in high school. Tyler, the son of Kim and Jason Voegele, earned academic all-state honors and will pursue an engineering degree at U-Mary. Terrance Tyson, Offensive Line, 6-2, 275. Lansing, MI (Grand Ledge HS) An all-conference performer, Terrance Tyson played four years of football at Grand Ledge High School. The son of Pat and Terry Tyson, Terrance will major in business at the University of Mary. Doug Van Aalst, Wide Receiver, 6-1, 185. Vancouver, WA (Heritage HS) An all-league performer at Heritage High School, Doug Van Aalst set a team record with 14 receptions in a game. In three years of varsity football, he accumulated over 1,500 yards receiving and caught ten touchdowns. A football academic scholar, Doug is the son of Joanne and Larry Van Aalst and will pursue a degree in athletic training, exercise science or business. Hunter Vanderpool, Free Safety, 6-2, 180. Amboy, WI (Battle Ground HS) Jarad Wolf, Tight End, 6-2, 235. New Salem, ND (New Salem HS) A first team all-state selection at two positions as a senior, Jarad Wolf was honored as both a tight end and a linebacker. He also earned first team all-state honors at linebacker as a junior. A multi-sport athlete, Wolfe competes in basketball, golf and track. The son of Jospeh and Roslyn Wolf, who are both U-Mary alumni, Jarad will pursue a degree in engineering. Wyatt Zietz, Offensive Line, 6-5, 280. Minot, ND (Minot HS) An all-state performer as a junior and a senior, Wyatt Zietz also earned all-conference honors both seasons as well. He led his team to a 10-1 mark as a sophomore in 2007 and 6-4 marks the past two years. An Academic All-State recipient as a junior, Wyatt is the son of Lisa and Jamie Zietz and will major in business. #marauders#
