Big Second Half by Yellowjackets Stings Marauders
The University of Mary struck first but a second half onslaught by Montana State University Billings drove the homestanding Yellowjackets to a 4-1 win over the Marauders on the final day of the Eighth Annual MSUB Cup Presented by the Best Western Clock Tower Inn. MSUB tallied three times in a nine minute span late in the game to run away with the victory.

University of Mary forward Chris Stier opened the scoring early and narrowly missed knotting the score late in a 2-1 Marauders men's soccer loss to Regis University. After opening the regular season at home with a win last weekend, the University of Mary women's soccer team takes its first road trip of 2010 when the Marauders compete in the eighth annual MSU Billings Cup Presented by Best Western Clock Tower Inn over Labor Day weekend. The Marauders will first play the Dixie State College Red Storm, a 2009 NCAA tournament participant, on Saturday, September 4, at 5 PM mountain time. After a day off, U-Mary then faces host Montana State University Billings on Monday, September 6, at 5 PM mountain time to close out the tournament. All games will be played at Yellowjacket Field.

The 2010 University of Mary men's soccer team starts the season fast and furious with three games in four days as the Marauders host fellow NCAA Division II programs Metro State College and Regis University of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and fellow independent Upper Iowa University in the Marauders Invite. On Friday, September 3, at Hughes Field, the Marauders face the Roadrunners of Metro State at 8 PM. The Marauders-Roadrunners match is preceded by Upper Iowa and Regis facing off at 6 PM. On Sunday, September 5, U-Mary tangles with the Regis Rangers at the Community Bowl starting at 11 AM. Playing at the same time is Upper Iowa and Metro State on Bavendick Field. The weekend wraps up when the Marauders and the Peacocks of Upper Iowa battle on Monday, September 3 at the Community Bowl. Game time is 11 AM.

A shortstop, the Williston, ND, native becomes the first Marauders baseball player ever selected in the draft. Honorable play on the pitch demonstrating fair play and model behavior earned the University of Mary women's soccer team the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Silver Team Ethics Award. Only 68 men's and women's collegiate soccer teams from all divisions received this recognition. The Marauders were cited for just three yellow and no red cards during the 2009 season.

Marauders Basketball to Celebrate Thanksgiving Weekend at the NSIC Holiday HoopsFest (with photo)
For the first time, the University of Mary men's and women's basketball teams will take part in the Northern Sun Holiday HoopsFest in Sioux Falls, SD, over Thanksgiving weekend. U-Mary will face fellow NSIC schools St. Cloud State on Saturday, November 28, and Concordia University - St. Paul on Sunday, November 29. The games are considered non-conference contests but are regional games.

Defense Propels Marauders Past Cougars 73-40
A tremendous defensive effort and a big second half propelled the University of Mary women's basketball team to its first win of the season as the Marauders defeated the University of Minnesota Morris 73-40. The Marauders limited the Cougars to just 27 per cent shooting from the field on their own court, including a 1-for-16 effort beyond the arc, and forced 30 turnovers.

Marauders Crack National Women's Cross Country Poll (with pdf)
A fantastic finish at the regional championships propelled the University of Mary women's cross country team into the national rankings for the first time since joining the NCAA. The Marauders are 19th in latest NCAA Division II cross country national rankings by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Marauders earned a trip to the NCAA Division II championships after placing fourth in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships last Saturday in Wayne, NE. Ranked seventh in the region prior to the event, U-Mary improved three places from its pre-regional rating. Competing in the nation's toughest region, the Marauders were able to capture one of six available slots for the national championships.

In the Marauders first two years as a member of the Northern Sun, the University of Mary women's outdoor track and field team claimed the conference championship, winning titles in 2007 and 2008. This year, it was another new - yet familiar - squad that claimed the women's title. Twice University of Mary freshman Desiree Smith was the final batter of the game, and twice the Marauders won on Saturday. Game Time for Basketball Season Finale at Minnesota State Changed
The University of Mary men's and women's basketball games starting times for the Marauders regular season finale at Minnesota State University on February 28 have changed. The women's game will now tip off at 2 p.m. with the men's contest to follow at 4 p.m. at the Taylor Center in Mankato, MN.

Nate Watson hit a grand slam for the University of Mary but the University of Minnesota Duluth scored the last six runs of the game as the Bulldogs defeated the Marauders 7-6 in extra innings at the Metrodome.

Down two starters before the game tipped off, the University of Mary women's basketball team seemed unfazed for the first 19 minutes of the game. But Winona State University owned the next 21 minutes and outscored U-Mary by 19 points in the second half on the way to a 77-55 Warriors Northern Sun victory over the Marauders.

Golden Bears Stifle Marauders in Baseball Opener
Nate Watson pitched a solid opening game to the season and freshman Tyler Steffan drove home two runs in the nightcap but the Marauders were unable to pick up a win on their first day of the season. Concordia University - St. Paul swept the Marauders 4-0 and 8-3 in a non-conference double-header at the Metrodome between two Northern Sun foes.
