Current and Former University of Mary Presidents Earn Highest Honor from Two Catholic Colleges (with photo)
At 31 years, Sister Thomas Welder, OSB, served the longest tenure as female president at any college or university in America at the time she retired in 2009. Days later, at age 34, Monsignor James Shea succeeded Welder and became the youngest serving college president in the United States, and still is today. On Saturday, May 16, 2015, both Welder and Shea will receive honorary doctorate degrees - the highest honor bestowed by any college or university -from Belmont Abbey College (Charlotte, NC) and Thomas More College, (Merrimack, NH), respectively.

NSIC honors Mary's Thorson, Stewart with end of year awards (with photo)
Titles generally equal accolades and the four-time conference champion University of Mary women's track and field team earned two major honors today. No stranger to these awards, Mike Thorson was named the Northern Sun Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year and Kathryn Stewart is a repeat choice as the NSIC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Nine members of the University of Mary women's track and field team have earned the opportunity to perform on a national stage. The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field / Cross Country Committee announced the participants for the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field championships and the nine selected Marauders will compete in seven events, five individual and two relays.

It's a college student's dream come true. Thanks to a seven-figure investment by BEK Communications Cooperative they'll have the opportunity to do things no other college student in the country has ever done before. Starting this fall, all University of Mary communications students will have the chance to work with state-of-the-art high definition television equipment to broadcast live events remotely from the new BEK Broadcast Studios on campus.

University of Mary and NISC Will Host Lunch and Learn on Being Wired Differently
Business School and NISC Announce Capstone Course with NISC CEO and Employees as Adjunct Professors. University of Mary President Monsignor James Shea announced Tuesday, April 14, 2015, a new capstone course in the Gary Tharaldson School of Business, to be taught by National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) President and CEO Vern Dosch and NISC employees. The announcement was made at the conclusion of the noon Lunch and Learn series sponsored by the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce and the University of Mary, and today's program was entitled, "Wired Differently: Leadership Through Service." Wired Differently is the name of NISC's newly released business book that highlights the company's unique business model, servant leadership principles and shared values. Wired Differently will be the textbook for the new college course.

Vatican Invites Director of University of Mary's Rome Campus to Read at Pope Francis' Easter Mass (with photo)
Don't let the last name fool you - that's if you can pronounce it. Even though Thomas Schulzetenberg - pronounced Schull-tzen-berg - comes from great German heritage and is a native Minnesotan, he has a masterful understanding of the English language and especially the Catholic faith. These are two important prerequisites for the honor that has been bestowed upon him by Pope Francis. The Vatican has asked Schulzetenberg to lector in English during Pope Francis' Easter Mass, Sunday, April 5, 2015, at St. Peter's Basilica. The mass itself is attended by thousands of people and watched on TV by millions more around the world.

University of Mary Harold Schafer Emerging Leaders Academy to Hold Benefit for Soldier and His Family. A North Dakota hero and his family need your help. After only two months into his first deployment in Mehraj, Afghanistan, Marine Corporal Mark Haegele of Bismarck, ND, a combat engineer from 2nd CEB, lost both legs and suffered hearing loss and injuries to both arms when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) while clearing a compound.

Emergency Drills Planned at Mary (with photo)
The University of Mary will be the site for sirens, smoke and other simulated emergency drills next week. On Tuesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 8 various emergency responders from Bismarck and the surrounding area will converge on Mary's Bismarck campus. A total of about 35 fireman, uniformed officers, medical personnel and hazardous material specialists are expected to participate in the drills.
