The University of Mary women's basketball team prepares for the excitement of March Madness. The Marauders are the number three seed from the north division and will host a first round playoff game in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Tournament Championships. The Marauders play the number six seed Winona State Warriors from the south division at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in the McDowell Activities Center (MAC). The MAC is regarded as one of the loudest and toughest environments for opponents to play in, in the conference - no matter what's at stake.
It's the second straight year the Marauders, under second-year head coach Rick Neumann, have clinched a home playoff berth in the first round.
The MAC will be packed with people wearing white, as the game has been designated a Whiteout Wednesday for fans. Ticket prices, as set by the NSIC, are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free for students if they show their Mcard - student identification. Children ages five and younger are also admitted free.
The eight winning teams from all of Wednesday evening's respective women's and men's contests will travel to Sioux Falls and play in the quarterfinal round of the tourney slated for either Saturday or Sunday - depending on the bracket they are in. The Marauders/Warriors winner will play the winner of the Minnesota State University v. Minnesota Crookston game Sunday, March 2, at noon.
Also Wednesday, the University of Mary men's team plays Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs in Marshall, Minn., in the first round of the playoffs. Game time is also 7 p.m.
