University of Mary Welcomes Italian Order, the Handmaids of Charity

Bismarck--The University of Mary, America's Leadership University, welcomed the Handmaids of Charity to Bismarck, ND, this past week. The sisters' home in Rome, Italy, is the location of University of Mary's new campus and the visit marks the beginning of a very warm relationship between the university and the Italian order.

The Handmaids of Charity have welcomed the University of Mary and its students with open arms. Now it was their turn to visit and experience the University of Mary; the hospitality of its founders and sponsors, the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery; and the city of Bismarck.

The three-day sojourn provided the visiting sisters an opportunity to connect a place with the students who will begin to study in Italy for five weeks or a semester starting, this November.

Mother Margherita and Sister Gilda, accompanied by two lay staff members, enjoyed a full schedule of events, designed to acquaint them with the people and the area. First, President Father James Shea and his President's Council formally welcomed them. They went on to meet the Bismarck mayor, observed Marauders football practice, and traveled to historic Medora. In the accompanying video clip, they visited the North Dakota Heritage Center and the Capitol.
