Compliance and Tax Accountant
Summary of Position: This position is responsible for ensuring that the University is in compliance with the various grants that it participates in, as well as ensuring that the University is in compliance with the various state payroll tax laws, federal payroll tax laws and international payroll tax laws. The position is responsible for showing leadership in improving the business processes of the Business office.
Position Relationship: Reports to the Controller.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
„X Demonstrates a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.
„X Ensure that the appropriate processes are in place to monitor the compliance with the various grants that the University is participating in.
„X Work with departments on their grant reporting.
„X Work with the Director of Payroll and Benefits to get the University set up, in the various States that we work in, to properly implement that State¡¦s payroll tax laws.
„X Research various payroll tax issues and develop plans to ensure that the University is in compliance with the tax laws for those areas.
„X Prepare the various payroll tax reports that the University submits.
„X Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
„X Create and post monthly journal entries in Jenzabar, as necessary.
„X Financial audit preparation.
„X Projects as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
„X B.S. in accounting or equivalent.
„X Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
„X Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
„X Experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite Applications, especially Excel.
„X Experience in working with grants and payroll tax laws preferred.
„X Experience preferable in Jenzabar, Info Maker, and Access
Work Environment: The office is located in the Benedictine Center. This is a full-time, 12 month position with benefits. Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. ¡V 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Periodic evening and weekend work is required to meet departmental deadlines and the needs of the university. Daily attendance at work is required unless the supervisor authorizes leave.
