Course Description:
This course section focuses on the medical management and pharmacological considerations related to physical therapy.  Selected topics include the neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardiopulmonary compromised patients.  The emphasis is on understanding drug mechanisms, classifications, physiological interactions, and treatment consideration of these patients during rehabilitation

Relationship to Curriculum Design: This course emphasizes the relationship of pharmacological agents and its effects to various patient populations including:

  • Orthostaic hypotension
  • Parkinson's
  • CVA
  • Head Injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Seizure
  • Pain  management
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Endocrine
  • Cardiopulmonary
  • Pediatric

The students will be able to apply these pharmacological principles and their implications for physical therapy management concurrently through Neurological Rehabilitation (PTH 523), Clinical Medicine (PTH 535) and Orthopedic Physical Therapy (PTH 521).
