Course Description: The course will emphasize the medical management of orthopedic, neurological, and sports medicine conditions including radiological imaging for physical therapists. Surgical and conservative treatment approaches to orthopedics, neurological and sports medicine pathologies will be integrated through the medical perspectives of area physicians. The students will also be exposed to clinical experience and present a case study that highlights concepts of collaborative practice within the context of providing health care.
Relationship to Curriculum Design: This course consists of a combination of didactic and clinical experiences that are reflective of the contemporary practice in physical therapy and will provide exposure to the clinical sciences of neurology, orthopedics, radiology, and sports medicine. The students will be able to apply these medical management principles to the practice of physical therapy concurrently through neurological rehabilitation (PTH 523) and orthopedic physical therapy (PTH 521).
