The most decorated University of Mary athletic program, the Marauders have captured a combined 44 conference titles in men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field. In 18 seasons under the direction of head coach Mike Thorson, 320 Marauders student-athletes have earned All-American honors, 90 received All-Academic recognition and 29 became individual national champions. Both Thorson and associate head coach Dennis Newell have earned Northern Sun Coach of the Year honors. The Marauders have earned the school’s two highest NCAA national finishes, placing 11th in the 2010 women’s cross country championships and ninth at the 2011 women’s indoor track and field championships.
