The University of Mary Bids Farewell to its Longtime Director of Alumni
On June 30, 2010, Sister Denise Ressler, OSB, retired as director of alumni after 21 years of service. A U-Mary graduate herself (B.A. in education and in history and social sciences in 1966), she was actively involved with the Alumni Association for 31 years, first as a member of the Alumni Council and as director of alumni since 1989. A caring friend, genuinely interested in students and their post-graduation lives, she kept track of moves and marriages, births and passings, updating alumni records and sharing class news in Momentum and on the Web. She also played a central role in the annual alumni recognition and outstanding senior awards, and in coordinating alumni participation in events such as Hot Diggity Dog Night, Christmas in the Park, and the Adopt-A-Highway program. In July 2009, she helped bring together more than 600 alumni from across the country for the university’s first All-School Reunion.
Although retired, she plans to stay connected to the university, helping with the U-Mary archives and library, and keeping in touch with alums. She also will expand her involvement with her community, serving as archivist for Annunciation Monastery and a member of the Visitation Committee, and fulfilling her recent appointment to the Monastery Council. In addition to spending more time in prayer and meditation, she looks forward to relaxing with a game of pinochle and a good puzzle or two. Good-bye and God’s blessings, Sister Denise!
