The following statements highlight the value and academic qualities associated with University of Mary. Several national surveys support these claims by offering evidence that private colleges outperform public universities in providing an educational environment that promotes effective learning and support personal development.
Supportive Campus Community
We offer a warm community of students, faculty, and staff who respect and support each other. We welcome students of all faiths who seek an education enhanced with a commitment to servant-leadership.
Faculty-student ratios are lower at private universities than at public colleges, allowing for close student-professor interaction, which enhances learning. U-Mary professors care about their students and take the time to challenge and mentor you. Professors talk regularly with students outside the classroom and are interested in them personally as well as professionally.
Engaging Classroom Experiences
Classrooms of private universities tend to be more active, engaging, and rigorous than at public universities. We provide you with different types of opportunities, with one common goal - to immerse you in "hands-on" activities outside of the classroom, emphasizing the central role of experience in your learning process.
Private education places greater emphasis on values and ethics than at public universities—and graduates express a correspondingly stronger set of personal and professional values, and a greater commitment to improving society. By offering the highest in academic quality and extracurricular programs, along with the flexibility and opportunities, U-Mary encourages you to develop to your full potential. You can be confident that the faculty and advisors will take a personal interest in your professional and personal growth and future success.
Engage in life-changing experiences and practice servant leadership by volunteering for the God’s Child Project, participating in Global Village, or studying biology in the Caribbean. U-Mary will help you take your learning far beyond the classroom.
U-Mary offers you an opportunity like no other with an Italian classroom experience. During your sophomore year, you can study and travel in Italy for a semester or a 5-week program - the choice is yours. In addition to our Rome campus, U-Mary offers opportunities to travel to Australia, Ecuador, or Guatemala, or spend a Semester at Sea.
High Graduation Rate
Private university graduates are more likely to complete their degree in four years, unlike public-funded universities where it normally takes 5, 6 or more years to complete a degree. At U-Mary, we guarantee it! By following simple guidelines, first-year freshmen can graduate in four years with a single declared major. If you don’t graduate in four years, your fifth year is free. On average, U-Mary students are 17.4% more likely to graduate in four years than at other universities in North Dakota!
Our tuition is among the most affordable in the country for a private university. With a wide variety of federal and state grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans available, private education is affordable to students of all family incomes. Our financial aid staff will work with families one-on-one to explore all of the funding resources available.
Emerging Leaders Academy
Alumni of private universities give their undergraduate programs more credit than public university graduates for helping them learn to write and speak effectively, think analytically, develop moral principles, become socially and politically aware, enhance teamwork and leadership skills, and develop a sense of purpose in life. U-Mary develops these skills through our Emerging Leaders Academy. This intensive leadership development program, offered through the Harold Schafer Emerging Leaders Academy, is dedicated to promoting servant-leadership and entrepreneurship.
