The process begins with you applying to an online program. Once you have been admitted to begin study, you will register for your first courses for the upcoming semester. With the accelerated format, you will take one class at a time. A typical online course is 5 to 10 weeks in length (depending on specific course material) with a maximum of 18-20 students.
On the first day of class, the online instructor will issue a course syllabus detailing each week's assignments - including specific deadlines for your required work during the week. For course discussions, the instructor typically includes discussion questions related to the week's topic. View the video on the right for more information of how online learning works.
Virtual classroom
The virtual classroom is the common meeting area for all students assigned to an online class. Only students taking that particular class have access to that virtual classroom, thus ensuring privacy for your group of students in a course.
U-Mary uses an Internet-based system which allows students to participate in classes in an online format. It allows you to send and receive information from your instructor, the classroom, and other students in the class. There is no software to install, but you will be required to have access to the Internet.
Access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
You will go online to review lectures, participate in discussion, and complete exams. You have an opportunity to spend time reviewing the class archives (comments, lectures, and discussions) and compose your responses at your own schedule, provided that your work is submitted before the due date. The material and concepts are approached on an individual level with many courses requiring collaboration with your fellow students. Many of the assignments and exercises required in online courses will still be completed off-line.
Student Advising
You are assigned an Academic Advisor upon admission to the University of Mary who will help guide you through your program of study. Our advisors are here for you via email, telephone, or in-person.
