A Message From the Deans

Welcome to the Saint Gianna School of Health Sciences! The health sciences have been central to our mission since the founding of Mary College in 1959, and at every point in our history, our health care programs have helped to lead the way. We can think of no better place for you to find your vocation, and we hope you will find a special friend and confidante in Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, our patron and inspiration.

At the University of Mary, your education is about much more than a diploma. It is about discovering your calling — merging your gifts and passion with a degree program that fulfills you personally and professionally. We want our graduates to be the very best in their fields — but more than that, we want them to be exemplars of moral courage and compassionate care, defenders of the sanctity of life and the dignity of the human person.

What does this mean?

  • Ensuring that every person, created in the image of God, has access to necessary treatments and therapies — especially the poor, the marginalized, and the underserved.
  • Acknowledging that health care professionals and their patients both have rights of conscience that must not be violated.
  • Approaching ethical dilemmas with keen perception, personal fortitude, and gracious understanding — asking not just can we, but more importantly should we?

Guided by the deep faith and values of our founders, the Benedictine Sisters of Anunciation Monastery, our community of students and faculty engage in collaborative, experiential learning in classrooms, clinics, labs, and research, preparing servant leaders who will transform health care at all stages of life.

We are honored and grateful for your trust and look forward to sharing this life-giving adventure of learning with you.

God bless you!
