Upward Bound is a federally funded program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and hosted by the University of Mary. Upward Bound is designed to help students succeed in high school and to prepare them for continuing success in college. Students must have completed eighth grade and be between 13 and 19 years of age.
The University of Mary's Upward Bound Project provides these students, free of charge, with academic, cultural, and social activities designed to build skills, motivation, and self-confidence. These are skills necessary for success in school, in careers, and in life.
The Upward Bound Program is the oldest and largest of the federal TRIO programs, all of which share the objective of helping disadvantaged students achieve success at the post-secondary level.
