What is Chick’s Place and when is it open?

Chick’s Place is a snack bar featuring a grill, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soup, soft drinks, and other snacks. It is located in the Leach Center for Student Life. Adjacent is a beverage bar featuring coffee drinks, Italian sodas and smoothies. Chick’s Place is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and on weekends, from 1:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. [Top]

Why is there a requirement to purchase a meal plan?

Boniface Hall, Hillside Hall, Greg Butler Hall, and North Hall, are home to all first-year students (along with some upper-level students). These facilities were designed as traditional residence halls with community facilities. Individual kitchens were not included in the design. Instead, meals are offered in a community dining room. It is understood that all upper-level students who choose to reside in the traditional residence halls will participate in a meal plan. [Top]

What if I don’t eat all my meals during the week?

Each meal plan is designed with a maximum number of meals that can be eaten each week. It is up to the student to decide how many of the meals he or she will eat. However, the meal plans are priced with the assumption that students will miss some meals. For this reason, missed meals are not carried forward from week to week and there is no refund available for “missed” meals. [Top]

If I don't like my meal plan can I change it?

Yes, but there is a deadline for making changes. You may change your meal plan anytime before the end of the second week of classes (for the fall 2007 semester, the deadline is Sept. 11, 2007 while the deadline for the spring 2008 semester is Jan. 22, 2008). If you make a change anytime before the deadline, you will be billed at a prorated rate for the time you were on each option. Changes may be made at the Student Development Office located in Room 1209 (main level) of the Benedictine Center for Servant Leadership. [Top]

What are the cafeteria meals like?

Each meal features a main entrée and variety of side dishes, beverages and desserts. Hot breakfast may be eggs and pancakes, French toast and sausage, and egg casserole or a hot breakfast sandwich. Fresh fruit, toast, cold cereal, sometimes hot cereal, milk, coffee, and juices are available. Lunches and suppers feature a salad bar, a soup, and a main entrée. In addition you may select bread, sandwich meat, fresh fruit, soft-serve ice cream (with cones or toppings), and either cookies, bars, pudding, or cake, and your choice of beverages. Weekend brunches may feature pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and scrambled eggs. You will find that the soups are often homemade, buns are often freshly baked, and because of the German-Russian influence in the region there will be homemade kneophla soup, fleishkiechla, kuchen, and occasionally, homemade apple dumplings. What if I am on a special diet?

Contact the director of dietary services to discuss your needs. [Top]

What if I have classes over lunch period?

If you have classes through the entire lunch period, please let your admissions counselor or the Student Development Office know as soon as possible so we can revise your schedule to ensure that you have time to eat your noon meal. [Top]

What if I don’t eat breakfast?

If you don’t eat breakfast, perhaps your best option would be either the Intermediate Meal Plan or the Basic Meal Plan. [Top]

What if I will be working off-campus?

If you are going to work off-campus, perhaps the best option is the Basic Meal Plan that allows for up to 10 meals per week. However, you may need to make it a point to eat breakfast in order to eat all the meals to which you are entitled. [Top]
