Common Counseling Concerns

At some point, all most all university students will experience stress, encounter challenges and need support. At these times, many students will naturally seek the support of family and friends. However, sometimes family and friends may not be available, or it might be helpful to talk to someone who can offer an objective and professional perspective in a confidential setting.

There are many reasons why a student might decide to use counseling services. Some of the most common include:
  • Conflicts with roommates
  • Family problems and concerns
  • Dating and relationship issues
  • Time-management and life-balance issues
  • Questions about career and life decisions
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Alcohol and substance use by self or by friends/roommates or family
  • Depressed mood
  • Difficulty with self-esteem
  • Grief and loss
  • Abuse
  • Eating disorders
  • Support for students diagnosed with mental health concerns and those taking medication
