In today’s health care environment nurse leaders, both executive and managerial, need a broad background in business concepts such as human and material resources, finance, information systems, organizational communication and change. Emphasis of this content is placed within the context of advanced nursing practice in health care. Facilitators, all successful health care leaders, use their practice to place theory into today’s health care milieu. The capstone seminar, a service project, is designed to guide students in the integration of nursing and management theory with a practical application.

MGT 503 Management Theory and Application
Develops an understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and skills required of individual managers and non-managers in today's changing organization by analyzing a body of management theory and the practices of successful managers and organizations. This process will also develop an awareness of the environmental conditions and pressures facing today's managers. Students will become acquainted with the language of business management and the application of its concepts.

NUR 505 Human Resources Management
Provides students with a comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to Human Resource Management and HRM competencies and demonstrates how to successfully apply this knowledge.

MGT 535 Economics
Presents a number of debates on important and compelling economic issues, which are designed to stimulate critical thinking skills and initiate lively and informed discussion. These debates take economic theory and show how it is applied to current, real-world public policy decisions, the outcomes of which will have an immediate and personal impact. Additional research beyond the assigned debate-style reader for each issue will be a major component of this course.

MGT 555 Managerial Finance
Analyzes the relationship of the financial manager, the manager's organization, the financial markets, and the tax environment, as well as how to use time value of money valuation tools and risk and return valuation models. Focusing on the more technical or financial aspects of organizational life, the manager will be able to develop some measurable objectives by which to assess organizational goals.

MGT 575 Information Systems for Managers
Directly concerned with the management issues surrounding information and telecommunications systems, it presents the ingredients of management knowledge necessary for success in the management of information technology. This course views information technology from the perspective of managers at several levels--from the CEO to the first line manager. It provides frameworks and management principles that current or aspiring managers can employ to cope with the challenges inherent in the implementation of rapidly advancing technology.

Introduces students to the area of marketing management and analysis of the domain of marketing, including theories of how marketing managers make decisions, appeal to consumers, and develop in unique marketing strategies. The managerial implications of these theoretical foundations will also be presented.

NUR 645 Organizational Communication and Change Management
Relates communication theories to management theories. Analyzes the flow and effectiveness of communication and develops effective change management plans.

NUR 695 Strategic Decision Making in Health Care
Students are assigned to work as a professional performance consulting team. The students will work together in teams to determine specific goals, objectives, and outcomes for the study or assessment.
