Bismarck, ND--The University of Mary has elected new members to its board of trustees. Dan Butler, Fargo, ND, and Kirk Lanterman, Seattle, WA, were appointed to their first three-year terms on the board of America's Leadership University at its recent annual meeting. Also new to the board is Sister Nancy Miller, OSB, who serves ex-officio as prioress of Annunciation Monastery.
"It is a privilege for the university to welcome these outstanding individuals to its governing board," said Sister Thomas Welder, president. "Respected leaders in their communities and professional fields, they bring varied and valuable experience, a broad-based perspective and a demonstrated commitment to youth, education, and the advancement of North Dakota.
"We are grateful for the willingness of these servant-leaders to contribute their time and talents to affirming our vision as America's Leadership University."
Founded in 1955 by the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery as a two-year school and becoming a four-year degree-granting institution in 1959, the University of Mary is North Dakota's only private, Catholic university. As the University of Mary approaches its 50th anniversary, which kicks off Nov. 17, 2008, it continues to be one of the region's fastest-growing schools of higher learning, with ongoing expansion of its areas of study, degree programs, and delivery options.
It offers 44 undergraduate majors and various pre-professional concentrations and a dual-degree, pre-engineering program. It also offers master's degrees in business administration, counseling, education, management, nursing, occupational therapy, and project management, as well as a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Both graduate and undergraduate accelerated degree programs for adult learners are offered through the School of Accelerated and Distance Education's 16 sites in six states and online. The University of Mary has enjoyed continuous accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1969
