Bismarck, ND--2008 marks the 25th year that the University of Mary will host an Elderhostel program for people 55 and older. After the positive response to its program focusing on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, this year the U-Mary program will center on Theodore Roosevelt's time in North Dakota. It will include touring the North Dakota Badlands in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and exploring the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the early settlers.
Elderhostel is a program of Adventures in Lifelong Learning for people 55-plus who have a desire to travel and learn. It is an international program offering programs throughout the world in the areas of the humanities, history, art, crafts and many other topics of interest. Since its founding in 1975, Elderhostel has had more than four million participants worldwide. The program offers the opportunity to explore fascinating places with like-minded people and leading experts who enable them to gain an insider's perspective on the world's varied heritages, cultures and environments.
"We are proud and excited to once again be welcoming Elderhostel participants to our campus and our region," says Sister Gerard Wald, O.S.B., who coordinates the program at U-Mary. "This is a unique opportunity to share our heritage and the Benedictine hospitality that is so much a part of the University of Mary with lifelong learners from across the country and around the world. We are looking forward to making our 25th year as an Elderhostel site the best yet!"
The dates of this summer's six-day U-Mary Elderhostel program are June 22-28, 2008. The cost of the program, excluding travel to the university is $671 for a double room, $731 for a single room, and $480 for commuters.
