Bismarck, ND--Perry A. Aanenson of Larimore, ND, and Elizabeth A. Sipma of Dickinson, ND, were crowned king and queen of the University of Mary's 2008 Homecoming celebration Thursday, Oct. 2, in Arno Gustin Hall. The coronation ceremony was preceded by a U-Mary Jazz Choir Concert and followed by a reception for the Royal Court, their friends and guests, in Chick's Place, helping to kick-off Homecoming Weekend at America's Leadership University.
Aanenson is a senior majoring in physical education and history education. He has been a Marauders wrestler, participated in the Student Senate, and is currently on the golf team. In his spare time, he also enjoys Ping-Pong and attending U-Mary athletic events. After receiving his degree, he plans to coach Larimore High School wrestling. He is the son of Gene and Patti Aanenson of Larimore.
Sipma is a junior majoring in occupational therapy. She is active in the Student Occupational Therapy Association, PTL, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a member of the HSL Gold Team and plays on the Marauders Women's Basketball team, where she was named "Most Improved Player" her sophomore year. She enjoys playing the piano, singing, reading, athletics, movies, church, worship, and Bible studies. After earning her master's in occupational therapy, Elizabeth is considering working in pediatrics or psychiatrics. Her parents are Tracy and Dawn Sipma of Dickinson.
The couple will reign over this year's "Dive In" Homecoming, the university's annual celebration of school and community. 2008 Homecoming events include the Homecoming football game against Concordia/St. Paul, Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Bismarck Community Bowl, dances for students (Fully Loaded) and alums (Johnny Holm), homecoming men's and women's soccer games and a Eucharistic Liturgy Sunday. Related events include the annual Alumni Recognition and Hall of Fame Dinner, Friday, Oct. 3, at which alums U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Barbara Jean Pfliger Gravelin, '85, and Marques J. Doppler, '81, president of KleinBank in Chanhassen and Victoria, MN, will be honored and Sarah Leer Cornell, Õ04; Tacy Riddle Duncan, '02; Dan Hughes, '98; and former U-Mary associate men's basketball coach Dave Godfread will be inducted into the Marauders Hall of Fame.

2008 Homecoming Queen Candidates
Jacquelyn F. Campbell, Flasher, ND, is a junior music performance major. In addition to being a member of the U-Mary Choir, Chamber Choir and Steel Drum Band, she has served as a resident assistant and played piano for the U-Mary Choir and Jazz Choir. A Dean's List student for two years, in addition to music and church activities, she enjoys traveling, especially to French-speaking countries. After earning her degree, she is considering studying languages and music in grad school. She is the daughter of Chris and Helen Campbell of Flasher.
Katie E. Hogan is a junior from Rapid City, SD, majoring in exercise science. Active in Health PRO, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she captains the Marauders volleyball team and was named to the Northern Sun All-Academic Team for volleyball. She enjoys being outside, rollerblading, hiking, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. After getting her degree, she plans to continue her education and become a physical therapist. Katie's parents are Pat and Patty Hogan of Rapid City.
Hannah J. Johnson is a junior accounting major from Fergus Falls, MN. A recipient of a Sister Thomas Welder Presidential Scholarship and an Emerging Leader, she has been on the Honor Roll five out of five semesters. At U-Mary, she has been active in PTL and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is currently a resident assistant, president of SPURS, and involved in Pep Band and intramurals. She enjoys sewing, quilting, playing softball, pick-up hockey games, swimming, and shopping. She looks forward to getting her CPA and having a rewarding career in accounting. Her parents are Brian and Lyn Johnson of Fergus Falls.
Shawna L. Metzger, Williston, ND, is a junior majoring in K-12 vocal and instrumental music education. She plays in the U-Mary Steel Drum Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band; Chamber Brass Ensemble; and Jazz Combo, and is in the Concert Choir. A recipient of a 2008 University of Mary Leadership Award and the April 2008 Student Development Shining Star Award, she enjoys photography, art, music, and reading. After graduating, she plans to teach secondary school music. Shawna is the daughter of James Metzger and Teresa Peterson of Williston.
Kayla F. Rose is a senior in the physical therapy program, from Rugby, ND. A member of the U-Mary Student Physical Therapy Association, she serves as a resident assistant and has been named to the Dean's List. In her spare time, she swims, reads, watches movies, works out at the gym, and plans her wedding to U-Mary senior Sam Unroh. She hopes to specialize in pediatric physical therapy and work in a North Dakota facility, preferably in Bismarck. Kayla is the daughter of Gary and Darlene Rose of Rugby.
2008 Homecoming King Candidates
Casey B. Berg is a senior from Long Prairie, MN, in the physical therapy program. The October 2008 Shining Star Award recipient, he is a member of the Emerging Leaders Academy and the U-Mary Student Physical Therapy Association, a student ambassador, and has been on the Dean's List three years. He enjoys intramural volleyball, pheasant hunting, waterskiing, playing piano and pipe organ, and vacationing. After graduating, he plans to work in pediatric physical therapy in Minnesota. His parents are Jeff and Nancy Berg of Long Prairie.
Nick M. Brady, a junior from Bismarck, is majoring in instrumental music education. He plays in the U-Mary Steel Drum Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Combo and looks forward to teaching music in a school. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, photography, camping, and snowboarding. Nick is the son of Todd and Nancy Brady of Bismarck.
Andy W. Leer is a junior from Williston, ND. He is a business administration major and a member of the Emerging Leaders Academy. A shortstop for the Marauders, he hopes to play some level of professional baseball after graduating. In his spare time, he likes to hunt and fish. Andy is the son of Wade and Belva Leer of Williston.
Paul A. Schmidt, a senior from Williston, ND, is majoring in business administration. Active in Student Government, as well as Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) and U-Mary's I.D.E.A. Center, he is student body vice president. He also has been named to the Honor Roll. Paul has played intramural sports and enjoys biking, hiking, fishing, golf, outdoor activities, photography, traveling, and Minnesota sports teams. After graduating, he plans to stay in North Dakota and further develop career opportunities while following his dreams and aspirations. His parents are Dave and Valerie Schmidt of Williston.
Travis P. Zachmann, a senior, is an elementary and early childhood education major from Baker, MT. A Dean's List student, he is past president of the HSL Gold Team and has served as vice president and is currently president of U-Mary's Student Education Association. He is also a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the ND Reading Association. In addition to playing intramural volleyball, he likes puzzles, hunting, hiking, and traveling. He plans on becoming an elementary or early childhood teacher in the area. Travis is the son of Steve and Karol Zachmann of Baker.
