Mankato, MN – Both Jesse Laber and Dusty Vliem extended their individual winning streaks on the mat for the Marauders, but the University of Mary tumbled to a 40-10 loss at 4th-ranked Minnesota State University.
Down 40-0, Laber and Vliem won the final two matches of the night.
Vliem earned the Marauders first win against the Mavericks in the 197-pound match, a 16-3 major decision over Cory Harnitz. A junior from Hettinger, ND, Vliem has won two straight matches, both by major decision. After not wrestling since high school, Vliem is now 2-1 at the collegiate level.
Laber finished the night with a win by pinfall over Tom Block in the heavyweight battle. Laber pinned Block at the 3:40 mark. Now undefeated in three matches this season, the senior from Napoleon, ND, hasn’t allowed a point in a match to an opponent this season.
After winning the first match by forfeit, Minnesota State won the next seven matches on the floor. Three of the wins were by pinfall, two by major decision and one by technical fall. In the seventh match, Shawn Sneva came up just short of victory, dropping a tight 6-4 decision to Willy Meekel.
The Marauders fall to 0-3 this season in duals. The #4 Minnesota State wrestling squad improves to 11-0-1.
U-Mary continues its three-match weekend road trip on Saturday, January 19, when the Marauders face Southwest Minnesota State. The following day, U-Mary faces 7th-ranked Upper Iowa University.
