May 8, 2008

Fargo, ND – Mike Feldman, the University of Mary all-time baseball hits leader, joined the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks this week as a non-roster invitee. Feldman will receive a tryout with the squad and plans to travel with the RedHawks on their exhibition trip to Winnipeg, MB, for a two-game set against the Goldeyes on May 7-8 and return to Fargo with two home games against Winnipeg May 9-10.

“This is a well-deserved opportunity for Mike,” said U-Mary head baseball coach Brad Walsh. “He’s a good kid with a good work ethic. Mike will represent the University of Mary as a young man and as a ball player very well.”

Primarily an outfielder, pitcher and catcher for the Marauders this season, Feldman played every position on the field during his four-year career at U-Mary. His versatility in the field is one reason the RedHawks were attracted to Feldman. A three-time Northern Sun Player of the Week this season, Feldman concluded his four-year baseball career at or near the top of all major Marauders offensive categories. He is first in career hits (186) and doubles (41), tied for first in triples (10), is second in home runs (24), runs batted in (105) and runs scored, and fourth in career batting average (.349),

On the single-season leader board, Feldman is tied for first in hits (68) and doubles (16), second in runs scored (53), tied for fourth in average (.410) and is fifth in home runs (10).

At the end of the regular season, Feldman led the Northern Sun in hits and total bases, is second in runs scored, third in doubles, is fourth in hitting and stolen bases (13 in 14 attempts), and fifth in slugging percentage (.723), On the mound, Feldman was fifth in innings pitches (60.1) and tenth in earned run average (5.07).

Among NCAA Division II players, Feldman ranked 57th in slugging percentage, 75th in batting average and 93rd in home runs per game.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, one of the top independent minor league teams in the nation, claimed Northern League Championships in 1998, 2003 and 2006. The RedHawks finished 2007 with a record of 57-38 and averaged 3,620 fans each game. Their regular season opens May 15.
