Aberdeen, SD – The University of Mary women’s tennis team won its second straight Northern Sun match, going on the road to defeat Northern State University by a score of 6-3. U-Mary improves its overall and NSIC record to 2-3 with the victory.
Michelle Bauer won her third straight singles match for the Marauders and her second straight doubles competition. She teamed with Jessica Seifert to defeat Abbey Johnsen and Bridget Henderson 8-4 in #2 doubles before defeating Jessica DesLauriers 6-3, 6-0 in #2 singles.
Chelsea Stark and Marissa Steadman got the Marauders off to a strong start, defeating the Wolves #1 doubles team of Kelsey Lonning and DesLauriers 8-3. Mariah Linn and Jane Langenwalter completed the U-Mary sweep in doubles with an 8-0 victory over Amanda Lee and Nashay Bercier.
The Wolves picked up their first win of the day in the #1 singles match, a 3-6, 6-0, 10-8 extra set comeback win over Stark in #1 singles. The NSU win started a back-and-forth battle in the singles play, with each team winning three matches.
After Bauer earned her victory over DesLauriers, NSU bounced back with a Johnsen win over Seifert. U-Mary’s Linn dropped Henderson before Lee snared a 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 win over Denise Bodensteiner. Langenwalter finished the conference win for U-Mary with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Bercier.
The Marauders are back in action Wednesday, April 9, when U-Mary hosts Minnesota State University Moorhead. The NSIC match begins at 3 p.m. at Sertoma Park in Bismarck, ND.
