St. Paul, MN – Dre Brunskill crushed two grand slams on the way to becoming the second University of Mary student-athlete to earn Northern Sun Softball Player of the Week honors this season.
The sophomore catcher from Valley Center, CA, hit both her grand slams at the Missouri Western Tournament, including a seventh-inning game-winner in a 6-5 win over Central Missouri. She hit a second one in the first inning of a 9-7 loss to Washburn. In seven games last week, Brunskill drove in 13 runs and hit two home runs and two doubles. She was 15-for-26 at the plate, batting .577 with an .855 slugging percentage. Brunskill had at least two hits in all seven games, including three in a 6-1 win over North Dakota.
The NSIC Freshman of the Year and an all-region performer last season, Brunskill leads the NSIC in home runs and runs batted in. She is hitting .406 with six home runs and 38 RBI in 30 games. Brunskill also has .632 slugging percentage with 20 runs scored and six doubles.
Earlier this year, teammate Meghan Ward earned NSIC Player of the Week honors.
