Bismarck, ND – Michelle Bauer earned the University of Mary’s lone women’s tennis win of the day as the Marauders fell 8-1 to Bemidji State University in Northern Sun conference action.
Bauer’s victory, the first for U-Mary this season after just opening the schedule last weekend, came over the Beaver’s Kristin Lexcen in the #2 singles match. It was a 6-1, 6-2 victory for Bauer.
The Beavers started the day sweeping all three doubles matches. In the #1 match, Kali Welu/Sheila Hoberg duo defeated U-Mary’s pair of Chelsey Stark/Marisa Steadman 8-2. In the #2 doubles, BSU’s Lexcon/Kara Johnson defeated U-Mary’s Bauer/Jessica Seifert 9-8 (11-9 overtime). Farrah Steinke/Cheyanne Maki won the #3 doubles for BSU 8-5 over Marah Linn/Jane Langenwalter.
In singles play, the Marauders Stark pushed Welu to three sets before losing 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 in the #1 singles match.
Bemidji State’s Steinke defeated Seifert 6-3, 6-0 in #3 singles. In #4 singles, Hoberg defeated U-Mary’s Linn in three,7-5, 3-6, and 10-7. Julie Kapsner defeated the Marauders’ Steadman 6-0, 6-1 in the #5 singles match. The final sibgles match of the day also went to BSU as Amy Erickson defeated Jane Langenwalter 6-3, 6-1.
In an exhibition singles match, BSU’s Johnson defeated Denise Bodensteiner 8-1.
The Marauders are now 0-3 overall and in NSIC play. U-Mary next faces Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday, April 5, in Fargo, ND, before facing the University of North Dakota club team in Grand Forks on Sunday.
The Beavers improve to 6-12 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC.
