Oct. 30, 2008
Bismarck, ND--Scott Prebys has been pounding on something hard with a stick in the Bismarck-Mandan area for over 30 years. On Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 7 p.m., in Heskett Hall, the steel drum player/clinician extraordinaire will demonstrate everything there is to know about this unique and amazingly versatile percussion instrument.
This informal discussion and demonstration session is intended to enlighten listeners and answer the many questions about tuning and performing calypso--the music of Trinidad, home of the steel pan.
This primer on the art of steel pan is free and open to the public. It's a wonderful way to prepare for Panorama VIII: Weekend in Paradise, which takes place on Nov. 7 and 8, at the Belle Mehus Auditorium.
For more information on this event and Panorama, contact Scott Prebys at sprebys@umary.edu.
