Special Projects

Learn by doing, lead others today!

Emerging Leaders in Health Care participate in a wide variety of projects, seminars, workshops, and professional conferences. We invite you to join us as an Emerging Leader to benefit from opportunities like these.

Leadership Projects

Health Care student at the April 2006, Healthy Kids Day

Students work side by side with community or campus partners  in projects as they implement leadership skills. Teach children a healthy lifestyle, help form public health policy, help high school students be better leaders in their school and community, complete a professional mentor/mentee relationship with top health care leaders -- you choose your area and let your future begin.

Harold Schafer Excellence in Health Care Institute

Students in the Emerging Leaders Academy join health care leaders from across the Upper Midwest in a day of professional development and collegiality. As an Emerging Leader, you set the agenda and choose the speakers. This is an opportunity to network and learn with leaders in the field.

Professional Skills Seminars

Conflict Resolution Professional Skills Seminar

This series of hands-on, for-credit workshops is designed to enhance students' leadership development in areas not routinely covered in the standard academic curriculum. The workshops respond to students' and employers' requests for specific skills and allow students the chance to network with the cooperating professionals who facilitate the workshops.

Clinical Internships

Students are offered opportunities to experience their future profession in paid and non-paid positions in health care organizations across the region.

On-Site Career Experiences

More than a job shadow, these site visits allow students an in-depth insight into health care organizational culture and future job benefits through interaction with practicing professionals.

Leadership Skill Development

As a future health care leader, you will be part of a team. Learn the basics of team-building as you and your classmates participate at Camp Neche's Challenge Course. You will learn about yourself and others as you conquer the high and low ropes challenges. You will have a lot of fun too!

 Camp Neche Challenge Course facilitates
 team-building skills.

Global and Domestic Travel

Travel in the United States and throughout the world broadens student leaders' perspective as they prepare for their future careers.  Check out a research facility in the Twin Cities, meet with a health care entrepreneur in his office, visit hospitals in Europe, or spend time serving the needs of patients in Guatemala. Whatever you choose, you will add to your leadership skills as you learn about others.
