HSL 110 Are You a Leader? 
This course is designed for students to explore the many aspects of servant-leadership and their own unique leadership traits. Students will enhance their understanding of the history of the Harold Schafer Leadership Center and the free enterprise system while networking with North Dakota business leaders to learn professionalism and communication.

HSL 120 Principles, Values and Ethics
This course provides a foundation for students to explore their own values system, to enhance their understanding of themselves and the values systems of others. Students will be expected to gain insight from business leaders to clarify factors that shape values, to identify and appreciate beliefs of others, and to learn ethical decision making in a business setting. Students will learn to appreciate the value of mission statements in organizations through observation and analysis.

HSL 210 Business Teams & Systems
This course utilizes insights gained in HSL 120 "Principles, Values and Ethics" as a foundation to understanding the day-to-day operation of a business. Students will participate in interactive projects facilitated by community partners to reach desired learning outcomes. Students will be exposed to the leadership, organization, and analysis of the functions of various business teams.

HSL 220 Leadership and Management 
Students will attend interactive lessons facilitated by business leaders that address leadership issues and success factors, especially collaboration, opportunistic versus permanent relationships, and how and when to lead. Students will learn to distinguish between coaching and dictating and how to inspire with a vision and passion that motivates team members to act.

HSL 310 Entrepreneurship & Innovation
Students will understand the defining characteristics of an entrepreneur and the role of innovation in today's organizations. Through specific projects, students will be able to analyze different situations and possibilities, opportunities, limitations, and risks while trying to develop entrepreneurial skills in a small-sized, medium-sized, nonprofit and for-profit business settings. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the annual Entrepreneurship Fair and other state and national competitions.

HSL 320 Effective Critical Thinking
Students will be required to be part of a team that completes a CEO (Challenging Educational Opportunity) Project. These projects involve a collaborative effort between students and businesses. Students will work with a  community partner to complete a task related to the growth of the business. Additionally, students will be exposed to at least four guest presenters (interactive lecture format) to learn about real-life experiences in today's business workplace related to effective critical thinking.

HSL 410 Exhibiting the Leader Within You  
Students will learn to articulate their personal definition of leadership by careful examination of topics including:
  1. What have you learned through the Schafer courses and experiences?
  2. What are your current beliefs and what are they based on?
  3. What added value do you bring to an organization and a community?
  4. What is your personal definition of success?
  5. What are your short term and long term goals and what is your plan to reach these goals?

Students will have the opportunity to work with a mentor to help them develop, complete, and evaluate their personal definition of leadership. Students will complete a personal marketing portfolio in written and electronic forms (CD-Rom) to be used as the student pursues professional employment or graduate school admission.
