Yo ho! The Marauders go into the 2008 season as defenders of a second-place finish in the premier Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Marauders surprised everyone but themselves with an impressive 7-4 record and a convincing victory in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, capping their inaugural 2007-08 NCAA season. They then finished with the top defense in the conference and also one of the most exciting spread offenses.
The high-powered offense and stifling defense gave Marauders fans plenty to cheer about in 2007. U-Mary led the conference in attendance with over 21,000 fans during five home games at the Bismarck Community Bowl, including, a record-setting 7,000-plus fans for the home opener against Augustana College.
Six Home Games for 2008! The Marauders embark on the 2008 season as the only NCAA Division II university in North Dakota with a schedule that features six home games — one that promises to be the most challenging in school history.
The University of Mary welcomes the Division II Chadron State Eagles -- ranked ninth nationally -- on Thursday, Aug. 28, 6 p.m., to kick off the season at the Bismarck Community Bowl. The Crookston Eagles return to Bismarck on Sept. 20, followed by back-to-back home games against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears (Homecoming) on Oct. 4, and Moorhead St. Dragons (Battle for the Paddle) on Oct. 11. St. Cloud State, one of the four former NCC schools and new to the Northern Sun Conference, makes its second visit in two years. The regular season finale brings in Wayne State, their first-ever trip to Bismarck-Mandan.
With the continued spirit and support of Marauders fans, the 2008 season promises to be filled with more fun, more fans, more food, and more football at home. Our goal at the University of Mary is to continue to provide the ultimate fan experience for the family. Contributing to that fun and excitement is the tailgating. For the second straight year, fans can kick off all Marauders home games and the Meet the Marauders event Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, with Famous Dave’s Barb-B-Que www.famousdaves.com — the official tailgate sponsor of Marauders football.
