A former Marauders student-athlete and alumni and the graduate assistant coach in 2006, Brian Clarke is starting his first year as head coach of the University of Mary men's soccer program.
“I am very confidant in the leadership Brian Clarke will bring to our men’s soccer program,” said U-Mary Athletic Director Al Bortke. “We believe the program will be successful under his coaching.”
“I’m thankful and honored for the opportunity the University of Mary is providing me to coach at my alma mater,” said Clarke. “The support from the university, particularly athletic director Al Bortke and women’s soccer coach Levi Evans, has been tremendous. I’m exited about the challenge of developing our program into an NCAA Division II-caliber team and competing at that level.”
A native of Newcastle, WY, Clarke played four years of collegiate soccer at U-Mary from 2002 through 2005. He earned NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors and was the team captain as a senior. Clarke played defense and midfielder for teams that advanced to the NAIA regional playoffs all three seasons the Marauders were eligible. U-Mary also had a winning record in each of the four seasons he played.
A 2006 University of Mary graduate with bachelor degrees in History Education and Social Behavioral Sciences Education, Clarke is pursuing a master’s degree from U-Mary in Secondary Education Administration.
The son of Brenda and Gary Clarke, he also has two sisters, Amy and Cami.
