February 15, 2007

Aberdeen, SD - The University of Mary women’s track and field team picked up seven team points and the men’s team two at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event championships held February 11-12 in Aberdeen, SD.

Team points earned in the competition will carry over to the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships to be hosted by Bemidji State University on February 23-24.

Three of the six place-winners on the women’s side were Marauders. Ambria Brantner, a sophomore from Yakima, WA, placed fourth by earning 2,881 points in the pentathlon. Freshman Brianna Perry of Great Falls, MT, took fifth with 2,842 points. Freshman Ashley Grammens (Lavina, MT) placed sixth with 2,841.

Grammens had the lone first-place finish for the Marauders among the five required events as she won the long jump.

Brantner earned four team points, Perry two and Grammens one. Only the top six placers earn points for their teams.

For the men, Alex Kipp, a freshman from Julesburg, CO, finished fourth to earn the Marauders two team points. He scored a total of 3,914 in the heptathlon. Kipp’s best finish among the seven events was a first-place finish in the 1,000 meter run.

Greg Schenavar, a freshman from Thompson Falls, MT, placed seventh with 3,630 points. He finished one place from earning team points.
