Bismarck, ND—The University of Mary faced a powerful Minnesota State University, Mankato team in the Marauders first dual of the season and lost 41-12 to the Mavericks. MSU arrived as the third-ranked team in NCAA Division II and had four nationally ranked wrestlers in its lineup.
The lone win on the mat for the Marauders was in the 197 pound match. Jesse Laber, a junior from Napoleon, ND, the 2005 NAIA Champion and a two-time NAIA All-America, pinned MSU’s Tom Block 2:29 into the match.
The other team points for U-Mary came via forfeit in the 133 pound weight class.
Minnesota State won five of the remaining six matches decided on the mat by pins. The Mavericks won the other match by a technical fall.
