1. How do I register for classes?
Returning students meet with their assigned advisors. New students meet with an admissions counselor. The signed registration then can be taken to Office of the Registrar. It is also possible to register online during the online registration period.

Classrooms are listed on student class schedule.
3. When will I get my diploma?
Please click Diploma/Commencement Procedures for information.
4. How long is the graduation ceremony?
Please click Information.
5. I’m graduating. What do I do?
Please click Graduation.
6. Whom do I contact regarding veterans benefits?
Contact U-Mary's certifying official, lonniep@umary.edu.
7. What access do parents have to the students' records?
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom these rights have transferred are "eligible students." Students are encouraged to review the FERPA policy and eligible students may sign the authorization release form to allow their parents access to their records at um/admissions/registrar/FERPA.
8. What is an official transcript?
An official transcript is the University of Mary’s certified statement of your essential academic data. It contains the chronological record of a student’s enrollment and academic performance. The official transcript is printed on security-sensitive paper and includes the University of Mary seal and the signature of the registrar and is in a sealed envelope with the registrar’s stamp. Photocopies, facsimiles, or transcripts stamped with “Issued to Student” on the transcript itself are NOT considered official transcripts. The Office of the Registrar issues ONLY official transcripts.
9. What is the difference between an "official" and an "unofficial" transcript?
An official transcript has the signature of the university registrar, is printed on special security paper, bears the University of Mary seal, and is in a sealed envelope. An unofficial transcript is printed on regular white paper and is not signed or sealed.
10. How do I obtain my official transcript?
You may order official transcripts through the National Student Clearinghouse at www.studentclearinghouse.org, in person at the Office of the Registrar in the Benedictine Center, or by mail or fax via our online transcript request form on our Web site at www.umary.edu. We cannot accept phone or e-mail requests.
11. How do I obtain my unofficial transcript?
If you are a current student, you may print an unofficial transcript from your my.umary.edu online account by logging onto my.umary.edu with your ID number and password. Choose the “Student” tab and click on “Unofficial Transcript” under the Student Information heading. To print your transcript, scroll down to the small PDF icon labeled “Unofficial Transcript Report” and click on it, then click on the Print icon on the top of the page.
12. Why can’t I have my transcript if there’s a hold?
If you have a hold on your records due to outstanding financial obligations or other unresolved obligations, such as overdue books, your transcript will not be issued until all holds have been resolved and removed.
13. Why do you need my handwritten signature to process my transcript?
In accordance with the 1974 Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), transcript records cannot be released without the consent of the student. The student’s handwritten signature is required to issue his/her transcripts. Because of this signature requirement, we do not accept telephone or e-mail requests for transcripts.
14. Why should I have my official transcript mailed instead of hand-delivering it?
An official transcript that is hand-delivered by a student or is mailed to the student is stamped “issued to student." The recipient has the option of accepting or not accepting the transcript.
15. Why do I have to give you my social security number?
There are many students with the same names and we use the social security number to verify that we are sending the correct transcript.
16. Can I have my transcripts faxed to me or another location?
The Office of the Registrar cannot fax official transcripts.
17. What is an Enrollment Verification?
An enrollment verification provides student-related information such as proof of enrollment, status, grade-point average, total credits, and dates of attendance and graduation. It does not provide specific course or grade information. Verifications of enrollment cannot be given until the student has registered for the term. Expected attendance for future terms cannot be verified. Verification of enrollment is usually requested by a student's financial lender, insurance company, or sponsor and is available free of charge. Some verifications may be faxed; it is the student's responsibility to determine if the verification can be received via fax (without an official seal or signature).
18. I need to verify that a student is currently enrolled at the University of Mary. Where do I direct this?
We have authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to do our enrollment verifications. Their telephone number is (703) 742-4200 and their Web site is www.studentclearinghouse.org.
