I have been teaching at the University of Mary since 1999. My specialty areas include fieldwork experiences, evidence-based practice, occupation-based practice, transition intervention, respect for diversity, and international service experiences. I lead the development of the Service-Oriented Leadership Experience (SOLE), the optional fieldwork experience where students serve impoverished children and elderly in Antigua, Guatemala.
I completed my doctorate in occupational therapy at Rocky Mountain University of Health Profession in Provo, UT. My work focused on evidence-based practice. I earned my Master of Science in occupational therapy at Towson University in Towson, MD, with a focus on pediatrics and developing norm-referenced assessments. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in counseling psychology from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, MD.
I bring an extensive work and life background to the University of Mary. I have volunteered to travel and serve individuals in Japan, Russia, Mexico, Guatemala, Washington DC, and Bismarck, ND. I have lived in 14 states and three countries. I have occupational therapy work experience in the public school system, private special education school, hospital, nursing home, and community-based settings. I developed an occupational therapy program to assist individuals with special needs transition from the classroom to sheltered-workshop and group-home settings for the Post-High School Program at Ivymount School.
I have presented on international fieldwork experiences and service-learning at the national level and at the regional level on integration of service and research, group dynamics, and conflict resolution.
