I have been teaching at the University of Mary since 1982. I am a critical care nurse and my nursing practice and teaching interests lie within this nursing specialty. I directly supervise senior nursing students in the telemetry unit of St. Alexius Medical Center. From the Bismarck campus, I teach theory courses on-site during the school year and also teach a summer online course in the Degree Completion Program (LPN to BS students)

On Servant-Leadership ...

The University of Mary's philosophy of servant-leadership is congruent with my own beliefs about the role of professional registered nurses. To me, professional nurses demonstrate servant-leadership by serving all clients equally with a welcoming attitude of caring and reverence. I believe that in order for professional nurses to serve and lead, they must possess an attitude of humility and respect for all members of the health care team; this attitude will foster positive health outcomes for the patient and family. Professional nurses serve others in the workplace through employment and also share their skills and talents to serve others in the larger community through volunteer activities. I believe that the combination of the University of Mary servant-leadership experience and the educational structure of the nursing program give students a strong foundation to become competent professional nurse servant-leaders.
