Admissions Criteria

Transcripts

Students interested in admission need to have transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended sent to Joan Weltz, transfer counselor, University of Mary, Office of Admissions, 7500 University Drive, Bismarck, ND 58504. Transcripts can be sent in at any time, even six to 10 months before starting the program. Transcripts will be reviewed and an evaluation sent to the student. When the student receives his or her transcript evaluation, he or she is advised to call the Nursing Degree Completion Program coordinator (1-800-408-6279, ext. 8046) to discuss the evaluation.

NLN Exams

Students must take the two (2) NLN Acceleration Challenge Examinations and attain a decision score of 90. Students are allowed only three attempts at passing the NLN ACE exams. NLN exams must be passed before admission into the fall class. Students are encouraged to study from a current NCLEX-RN review book. The NLN ACE exams include:

  • Care of the Adult Client
  • Care of the Client During Childbearing & Care of the Child

With successful completion of these examinations, students are given a "P" (pass) and credit for NUR 332 Health Support and NUR 430 Health Restoration.

Apply

  1. Apply for admission to the Division of Nursing. All admission materials are due by June 15 to be considered for admission into the fall class (request application packet).
  2. Apply for admission to the University of Mary, (admission information is available at www.umary.edu or at ext. 8030)
  3. Please direct all questions regarding financial assistance to Brenda Zastoupil, director of financial assistance, at 1 (800) 408-6279, ext. 8244, or visit the University of Mary Web site at www.umary.edu.
  4. Students are notified by land mail of their admission status.


After Admission Into the Nursing Division

Orientation Seminar

Participation in the orientation seminar held at the University of Mary’s Bismarck campus is required. The seminar, usually one full day in length, will include orientation to the university and to the computer course management system used in U-Mary's Nursing Degree Completion Program.

The university's Nursing Degree Completion Program uses a Web-enhanced format and requires students to have access to the Internet.

The content/theory portion of most classes is taught in a Web-enhanced format using the Internet. If approved and a contract is secured, the clinical component of the program can be completed in the student's home community or surrounding area. Additionally, attendance at periodic seminars on the University of Mary campus during CHE 107.99, NUR 248.99, NUR 338.99, NUR 420.99, NUR 432.99, and NUR 434.99 will be required. These campus seminars would be scheduled in conjunction with other course seminars.
