The curriculum in physical education teaching is designed to prepare students to teach physical education in elementary, middle school, and secondary school settings. A student completing the physical education program at the University of Mary is eligible for licensure to teach in grades K-12 in North Dakota. Meeting the requirement for licensure in other states is the responsibility of the student.
Major in Physical Education: ENG 103; COM 109; PSY 201, 207 or 332; SOC 102 or 202 or 304; BIO 101, 207; MAT 103 or above; EXS 305, 336; ATH 238, 317; EDU 201 or 202, 310, 320, 391, 421, 422, 432-01, 432-02; PED 105,157, 159, 221, 222, 235, 303, 305, 313, 339, 360, 401; and ALU 499.
Division of Education Admission Requirements
The specific requirements for entrance into the Division of Education are as follows:
1. A student must have minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
2. A student must complete a Personal Data Form.
3. A student must submit a current Graduation Report.
4. A student must write and submit an essay on the "Philosophy of the Division of Education."
5. For SBS teaching, English teaching, biology teaching, math teaching, and music majors only: Students must provide written evidence of acceptance by their major division.
Admission to the Division of Education is prerequisite to taking EDU and PED 300-400 level courses. Admission requirements are presented and discussed in EDU 201-Introduction to Teaching, and all 200-level courses must be completed prior to enrollment in EDU/PED 300-400-level courses. |
