EDU 215 Introduction to Early Childhood Education
This course explores current research and practices in the study of early childhood education, giving historical and philosophical foundations of working with children 0-8 years, integrating developmentally appropriate practices, reflective teaching and working in partnership with parents is highlighted.

EDU 332 Cognitive and Language Development
The importance of language cognition and thinking is highlighted in this course. Students are exposed to current theories as well as the traditional theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Chomsky, and Skinner, and their impact on teaching and learning. A 30-hour practicum and case study are included in this course.

EDU 334 Early Childhood Education Methods and Materials
This course is a survey of current curriculum models of early childhood education with an integration of theory and practice. Professional development, ethical conduct, curriculum planning, and managing classrooms for infants and toddlers, preschool, and kindergarten are integrated throughout the semester. This course is taken concurrently with EDU 335.

EDU 335 Early Childhood Education Practicum
This course requires 60 hours of field work with 20 hours spent training with each age group — infant/toddler, preschool, and kindergarten. Students are required to work five to six hours a week for 12 weeks at a teaching location selected by the instructor. This course is taken concurrently with EDU 334.

EDU 336 Developing Learning Environments
This course will help students design early childhood classroom environments that enhance the curriculum. Students learn how to manage the routines of a classroom and plan for instruction with the areas of health, safety, and nutrition. Throughout the course examining the role of licensing requirements in setting up an early childhood facility and how to assess the quality of that environment will be discussed.

EDU 337 Inclusion in Early Childhood Settings
More young children with disabilities are being included in regular childcare and classroom settings. Inclusion is adding to the tasks that teachers have in classrooms. By helping early childhood educators understand the basic needs of special needs children, they will be better able to meet all children's needs.

EDU 338 Play in Early Childhood Education
This course emphasizes the importance of play and the social environment in early childhood classrooms. Play is one of the main vehicles by which children assimilate their experiences with the world around them. During this class, students will discover how to successfully use play to enhance the learning in their classrooms.
