Upon acceptance to the University of Mary, a degree plan will be completed for each student. A total of 128 credits is required for graduation from the University of Mary. The management core requirements account for 37 of these total credits, and a maximum of 64 credits are allowed to be transferred from a 2-year accredited institution of higher education. Course descriptions follow. 

MGT 370
Transitional Leadership
Explore the sources of organizational change. Focus on managing change and envisioning an effective future. Build a clear awareness of individual leadership, change factors, personal and organizational reactions to change, as well as strategies to individually and organizationally manage change.

MGT 371 Economics
Use economic information to make proactive decisions. Focus on planning and finance skills. At the microeconomic level, examine resource allocation and pricing structure through analyzing demand and supply applications. At the macroeconomic level, analyze the GDP, the inflation rate, the unemployment rate, deficit spending, the national debt, and other economic indicators.

MGT 373 Accounting for Managers
Use financial information to plan, evaluate, and control the use of resources in the organization. Focus on skills in economics and management. Examine generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, financial statements and the relationship between the statements, operating cycle of a business, and financial statement analysis.

MGT 374 Information Systems for Leaders
Use information as a resource you can manage. Focus on your skills in understanding systems and communication. Explore the various types of information systems, benefits of electronic commerce and electronic business and the social and ethical issues that arise from managing a digital firm, how to manage knowledge within a business and how it enhances decision making.

 Writing for Leaders
Write clearly and effectively to achieve the ends you want. Focus on critical thinking and presentation skills.

MGT 378 Interpersonal Communication Skills
Work effectively with other people to achieve corporate goals. Focus on skills for conflict management, communications, and leadership.

MGT 380 Organizational Leadership Seminar
Explore the challenges affecting leaders today and how the traditions of a Benedictine education can help you meet those challenges.

MGT 470 Entrepreneurship
Plan for starting a new business and managing its growth. Focus on creative and management skills, and the entrepreneurial way of thinking about opportunity and the benefits and risks of uncertainty. Review the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to recognize and capture business opportunities.

MGT 471 Leadership in the Legal Environment
Identify and analyze legal issues facing leaders in management. Focus on skills for critical thinking and ethics. Introduction to the judicial process, alternative dispute resolution, constitutional law, torts, and contracts.

MGT 472 Ethical Leadership
Learn to understand values and make ethical business decisions. Focus on critical thinking and conflict management skills. Analyze and develop ethical individual leadership skills that provide a strong foundation for effective ethical management. Explore theories of ethics as applied to consequences and/or actions leading up to consequences, and as applied to the person committing or omitting an ethical action.

MGT 476 Global Leadership
Move successfully into foreign business cultures using the opportunities provided by international trade agreements. Focus on risk-taking and marketing skills. Understand differences to be found between domestic operations and those beyond the U.S. borders and adaptations necessary to operate effectively. Study current international events as applied to international business.

MGT 479
 Marketing
Explore customer needs with respect to production, placement, promotion, packaging, and pricing of goods. Focus on exploring target markets, product and service mixes, and marketing environments. Explore the basic concepts and practices of marketing, delivering customer satisfaction at a profit.

MGT 480 Strategic Decision Making
Design a strategic plan and a personal career management system. Focus on your skills for vision and presentation. Explore development of strategic decisions to determine where the organization is going and how to get there; leadership to influence, rather than to be influenced by events.
